Curriculum Opportunities

We pride ourselves on a wide range of curriculum opportunites for our students

It’s not the curriculum that we offer that sets us apart, it’s the manner in which it’s delivered

Any school can teach a curriculum. Amazing schools like ours is full of teachers actively and passionately exploring the possibilities of making their teaching practice more innovative, engaging and fun at every turn. This is the single ingredient that drives the most growth in our students.

The success we attain is not only evidenced by the assessment data – but it’s seen through the smiles and joy we see on our student’s faces as a concept is grasped. This is the indefinable element that drives us as teachers to produce and grow our own teaching skills year in, year out.

Religious Education

The archdiocese of Melbourne recommends the use of the text book To Know, Worship and Love which is used throughout St Philip’s School.

Student Wellbeing

We at St Philip’s believe that one of the key factors in school success is the role of positive self-esteem and showing and receiving respect.

Literacy

At St Philip’s our Literacy program reflects a contemporary learning approach which targets the development of Thinking Skills in addition to Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

Numeracy

In a contemporary learning approach, Mathematics is seen as the capacity to be numerate, that is, the ability to effectively apply Mathematics to everyday situations.

S.T.E.M.

All of our students participate in our  STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) Program once a week. These curriculum areas are part of our everyday life.

Performing Arts

Specialist Music/Performing Arts lessons occur each week with our Specialist teacher. The students engage in singing and listening and are taught music appreciation.

Languages (Italian)

Each class group has a specialist Italian lesson each week. The students are provided with many opportunities to develop their understanding of the Italian language and an appreciation of the Italian culture.

Physical Education

Our Physical Education program provides opportunities for the development movement skills and social and emotional development strategies to enable students to confidently, competently and creatively participate in a range of physical activities.

Inquiry

Students are supported and guided to achieve set learning goals through active learning. Progress and achievement is assessed by how well students develop critical and analytical skills and their ability to synthesise knowledge.

Library

Our well resourced Library is a flexible learning space where students have the opportunity to explore, research and develop a lifelong love of reading.
